Sound Generator creates a space for artists to develop and test ambitious project ideas. Supported by this scheme, artists will be able to try out new approaches, learn from others and develop their practice.

NikNak spent 6 months R & D a piece of music/series of pieces of music with visuals to showcase Turntablism via a multichannel surround sound performance. The aim was to provide an insight into how surround sound can be used in performative ways outside of cinemas and installations, and show Turntablism in a new light outside of hip-hop.

After months of R&D and collaborating with visual artist Loëpa, the project soon developed its own narrative within Afrofuturism and experimental electronic music.

Focusing on a futuristic surround-sound exploration into Turntablism and identity, as a young black woman starts to discover that she has superpowers.

The project debuted at a live performance at Café Oto in September 2021 with London-based artist Xana supporting.
